Ingband (Ironman Angband) 0.1.1 (19971105) ======= Ingband is an Angband variant, designed for hardened Angband players who like a challenging game. The general ethos of this variant is to play the game without ever using the stores or up-staircases (except in emergency) and taking every down-staircase the character finds. This version is considered to be an ALPHA release. It (hopefully) is no less stable than the Angband version it is based upon, 2.8.2. Any bugs in Angband 2.8.2 are likely to be in this version of Ingband as well. General ethos ============= (This needs to be put into the online help, someday) The character is a hard nut. As such, he will not lower himself into entering a mere mortal's shop! He will not wimp out of going into the dungeon, and actually has an intense desire you travel deeper into the dungeon at every available opertunity. He wouldn't dream of going back up, except in dire emergency! This type of character is likely to die young, but then again, who knows...? Ironman-Angband makes for a fun, short(er) game, for experienced players and maybe not-so-experienced players alike... So long as you can take dying frequently ;) The first player to mail me with a (legitimate) character dump of a character who has reached level 50 wins the prize of a mention in the next release :) Just to clarify: I mean character level, not dungeon level! Files ===== The complete source archive for Ingband 0.1.1 can be found in the file ingband-011.tar.gz in the same location as this file. To extract it, follow the same steps as for the standard Angband distribution. tar xzf ingband-011.tar.gz or gunzip -c ingband-011.tar.gz |tar xf - are good choices, executed with the archive in the root (for DOS) or something like /usr/src for Linux and other unices. Note that the DJGPP port of tar/gzip does not support the first method (I don't know about other ports). If neither of these work, try gunzip ingband-011.tar.gz tar xf ingband-011.tar For DOS, you will need to rename the file something like "INGBAND.TGZ", then gunzip ingband.tgz tar xf ingband.tar Note that the library path set in the configuration is /usr/src/ingband/lib/. This differs from the standard ./lib/, so you will _need_ to change this if you extract the source anywhere other than /usr/src.
