File: weu/press3.94 Subject: Press release - for immediate release The WEU Chairmanship-in-Office draws initial conclusions from the NATO summit at a meeting of the Assembly's Political Committee Paris, 3rd February 1994 - The Political Committee of the WEU Assembly met in Paris today with Mr. Peter Stoffelen (Socialist, Netherlands) in the chair. The meeting was the first attended by representatives from Greece and Norway. The committee heard Ambassador Roger Linster, Permanent Representative of Luxembourg to the WEU Council, representing the Luxembourg Chairmanship-in-Office. Mr. Linster reported on preparations by the WEU Council for practical implementation by WEU of the decisions taken at the NATO summit meeting on 10th and 11th January last, and specifically on the framework of operations and decisions for the strategic concept of "Combined Joint Task Forces". The prospects for closer association of the countries of the Forum of Consultation in the activities of WEU were also the subject of an in-depth discussion with a view to the decisions to be reached by the WEU Ministerial Council in Luxembourg on 9th-10th May 1994. "The important seminar organised by the Polish Parliament for 11th and 12th February will enable us to arrive at a better definition of this closer association with WEU" stated the Chairman of the Political Committee, Mr. Stoffelen.
