         Sixth Annual Computer Security Incident Handling

FIRST is an international organization comprised of representatives
from the computer security incident response teams of various
governments, commercial enterprises, and academia.  The primary
objective of FIRST is to facilitate communication and cooperation   
between response teams.  The exchange of information within FIRST
has become more frequent as global networking, connectivity and 
communications capabilities have provided information system access
to virtually every country in the world.
 
The Annual Computer Security Incident Handling Workshop provides
computer security professionals with information and training  
to help them deal with increasingly complex security incidents   
and vulnerabilities.  The primary topic for this years workshop 
is tools for incident handling in an international arena, and 
will include tutorials, seminars, discussion groups, and hands-on 
sessions.  The preliminary agenda includes:
   * Tutorials: Security for Managers
                Incident Handling for Techies
   * Working Groups: Collecting Computer Crime Statistics
                     Internet Security/Insecurity
                     FIRST Membership Responsibilities
   * Introduction of incident handling teams
   * Discussion of non-traditional and public domain network 
     servers
   * Vendor panel on how vendors respond to incident response 
     teams 
   * Panel discussion on interoperability in the FIRST community
   * Invited talks on recent detection and analysis tools
   * Panel on forming an incident response team
   * Discussion of the trends in legal and administrative issues   
     with a focus on international issues

Attendees will receive a free cd-rom that includes but is not
limited to:

   * Firewalls software
   * Authentication software 

This year's workshop will be held in Boston, Massachusetts, July
25-29 1994, at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, 64 Arlington Street,
617-426-2000.  The room rate is $99.00/night single, and $109.00/
night double.  To reserve a room at these rates, call the hotel
before 25 June 1994.  The registration fee for the conference is
$275.00/person, and includes coffee breaks, 2 lunches, a reception,

Privacy Enhanced Mail (PEM): ASSIST uses PEM, a public key   
encryption tool, to digitally sign all bulletins that are   
distributed through e-mail.  The section of seemingly random   
characters between the "BEGIN PRIVACY-ENHANCED MESSAGE" and   
"BEGIN ASSIST BULLETIN" contains machine-readable digital   
signature information generated by PEM, not corrupted data.  PEM
software for UNIX systems is available from Trusted Information
Systems (TIS) at no cost, and can be obtained via anonymous FTP
from ftp.tis.com (IP 192.94.214.96).  Note:   The TIS software is
just one of several implementations of PEM currently available and
additional versions are likely to be offered from other
sources in the near future.
