sb> You wish to invite SPAM and email address collecting?

we are have some spam hitting this list now... since anyone can
subscribe to this list, email addresses can be gathered...

Adrian> Is there such a thing as a password-protected newsgroup?

why would one want to password protect a newsgroup... why would one
want to password protect a html mail archive of this maillist...

this is a PUBLIC forum... i have not seen a statement anywhere barring
individuals from subscribing to this list so why bar anyone from the
html archives or newgroups...

lets face it... SPAM sucks and it has become part of life... but why
should we back ourselves in a corner and not use things that can make
access to information from this list a little more accessiable...

i know some in the past have indicated that putting this list in a
html archive form violates their privacy but i have yet to have
someone explain to me how this is so especially if smartlist is
working on this maillist and archiving the email...

cheers,
andreas
