To clear up any confusion ...

The latest version of bench.el is in the 20.0-b31 distribution. An
identical copy is available for ftp at (clip & save, this URL will be
kept updated): [8,884]
	ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/beta/contrib/bench.el

(It will get gzipped after more tests get added).

A sample large file is available in the same directory: [150,092]

	ftp://ftp.xemacs.org/pub/beta/contrib/gnus-bench.el.gz

In order to get meaningful numbers you should configure beta XEmacs
with `--debug=no --error-checking=none'. For purposes of comparison
it is recommended you run tests against an optimized build of Emacs
19.34 (with tests against XEmacs 19.13 & 19.14 optional).

If you can come up with new tests, they will get added. The more
primitive the operations, the better. I am considering adding an
adjunct page to the `About XEmacs...' page with pictures and info on
all individuals who contribute to speeding up XEmacs. Obviously, this
page will only get added if we can make serious speed advances on
19.14.

Please note: This is a competition only in the sense that Emacs 19.34
is the fastest emacs around, so it makes sense to make this
comparison. Neither I nor Martin harbor ill-will towards RMS, the FSF
and GNU Emacs.
