    Michael> What's your point?

My point is that (require 'efs) slows down startup of XEmacs-20.10-b1
by 99 seconds. Loading of all the other stuff in sample.emacs, my big
site-start.el and my little .emacs together only take 82 seconds.

Michael> What do you do to load EFS? The sample.emacs in 20.1b1 doesn't have a

I changed all occurences of ange-ftp in sample.emacs to efs.

Michael> The recommended way used to be to do:

    Michael> (require 'efs-auto)

Thanks, that avoid the startup-hit.

Michael> This takes almost no time at all, and EFS then loads on
demand

Loading of efs on demand doesn't appear to take anywhere close to 100
seconds.

    Michael> Cheers =8-} Mike

Thanks for your help.
