I think you misunderstand.  I didn't list id-select's size to show how
big it was, but to compare it to thingatpt.el.  I still maintain that
thingatpt.el should be included for compatibility reasons, if nothing
else.

Please understand that loading id-select has side-effects, like
altering the mouse-hooks etc., which are fine for one people, and
less-than-fine for others.  thingatpt.el does exactly what it is made
for.

You must be joking!  How can XEmacs be released to the world without
those two crucial files? :-)
