	How about if you use a hard coded rgb value in the just the
splash screen, and then use whatever other background color people have
specified in their normal windows.  It is a splash screen, so make it's
background whatever is best for that.  But use a named gray80 (or
whatever is chosen) for the default background color.

P.S.  On the war of background colors, can people start posting their
sets of background and face colors?  I'd like to see what other people
are doing, and it's far easier to look at existing combinations and
select good features than to spend weeks playing around with them
yourself.  And if we collect enough of these, they might provide a good
basis for the CDE/HP-VUE like ColorSet picker.
