I second that. On my Pentium60 "customize" is _that_ slow, I never
managed to figure out how it works :-( I keep clicking the mouse, wait
for several seconds, and when nothing happens, I conclude that I
apparently clicked on a non-active item; so I click on something else,
wait another couple of seconds, and ... [repeat the above steps for a
couple of loops] After quite some time, eventually the mouse clicks
take effect, but by now I am unable to tell which of my mouse clicks
actually caused this change.

I am sorry to say, that on my machine "customize" is indeed
unusable. I expect that there will be a lot of complaints and
bug-reports when it is released unto the unsuspecting public. Please
note, that these observations were made with 20.1beta1(Mule) under
Linux. If recent changes improved "customize's" performance, then
things might be different.

IMHO, these performance issues must be addressed before making
"customize" the official package for changing XEmacs's behavior. I
cannot say, whether I believe "customize" to be a good or a bad
package, because so far I have never seen it work ;-/
