Something fishy is going on.... Sometimes, if I select from one X
application and then from another, the latest selected text doesn't get
pasted into xemacs, IF I USE BUTTON2.

However, it never fails to paste correctly IF I SELECT PASTE FROM THE
MENUBAR.

(Most notably, xemacs refuses to paste from fsf's emacs and exmh, but has
no trouble pasting from xterm.)

I am using X11R6/twm on SunOS 4.1.3.

I reported this before, but Steve couldn't reproduce it. (But Martin could)

In any case, why not use the same function to paste from button2 and
Edit->Paste, since the latter always seems to work?
