This is a very disappointing situation. I use pixmaps for things that
need a transparent background, but they suffer from this display
bug. On the other hand using gifs doesn't work at all with
transparency (although it should of course). PNG alpha channel doesn't
work either.

We really should find someone who knows enougth of the underlying C
code to fix this annoying situation. I'm not the one...
