If someone were to write up a general MIME handler that would be
included in both Emacsen, I would definitely rewrite Gnus to use it.
Immediately.

There are two reasons I've held off doing an integration with tm.
1) It's not included in Emacs, and only recently included in XEmacs.
2) I don't understand it. Now, I haven't really looked at the code
all that closely, but I have read the (English version of the)
documentation, which is, uhm, lacking in specifics.

If some well-defined interface to a MIME package could be written up
-- a package that would do nothing but MIME things; no meddling with
any internals of any other packages -- then it would be quite simple
for all other packages that need MIME services to use that package.
The interface needs to be well-defined, though.
