OK, so I build the binary kit for AIX 4.1.4, and I try this out on a
remote host.

I get this little mother:

Lisp backtrace follows:

  make-device(x nil)
  # bind (display)
  make-x-device(nil)
  init-x-win()
  # bind (debugger debug-on-error command-line-args-left)
  command-line()
  # (unwind-protect ...)
  normal-top-level()
  # (condition-case ... . error)
  # (catch top-level ...)

So I read the FAQ, and see this:

>3.5. Help! I can not get XEmacs to display on my Envizex X-terminal!
>=====================================================================
>
> Try setting the DISPLAY variable using the numeric IP address of the
>host you are running XEmacs from.

Whatever an Evizex X-terminal is, the advice works for me, too. Does
anyone remember what the cause of this is supposed to be?

19.14 didn't have this problem, but then I compiled that with gcc.

I don't feel very comfortable shipping a binary kit that has this
property.
