Well, I had the same problem some time ago when upgrading from 19.14 to
19.15 and in the same way migrating from Sun to HP. As I did, I
introduce and stty-sequence in a non-interactive part of my .cshrc. In
fact I found viewing gzipped tars was broken (those binary
characters).
