If this is the vm-unsaved-message problem, the simple solution is
to add 

(fset 'vm-unsaved-message 'message)

to tm-vl.el or whatever file it is that needs it.

Well, yeah, but it's eerie.  Makes me think my mail server's
busted.  Kinda like when your neighbors who are yelling all the
time suddenly stop yelling.  Probably means somebody got shot. :-O
