Yeah... 'jump, and 'animate seemed to work OK.  'proteus flamed out in
spectacular fashion - first it was unable to  set the cursor, and then
Xemacs (20.2 final) crashed a little bit later.

All:

Would it be a Good Thing or a Bad Idea if somebody  were to go through
the source  tree, find all the 'known/believed  to be broken" routines
like this, and wrapped the broken parts with a

(if xemacs-beta-tester-you-were-warned (broken-code))

and put a (setq  xemacs-beta-tester-you-were-warned nil) someplace?  I
don't think  we should be  shipping out a product   that has known bad
code enabled by default - make the user give a "yes, I know I may be
shooting myself in the foot here" before he can.

There's precident for this - maybe we can even use the already written
code in novice.el so each broken thing can be seperately toggled?
