Requirements for uploads and uploaders ************************************** - Please to *not* upload modified sources of freely distributable programs here! Send them to the authors instead so the changes will be incorporated in the next release. - To make it easier to remove or replace packages, it would be good if packs would fit in a single directory each, indicating package and version by its name. Again, all those package-directories should be put in one single directory, I prefer "/usr/local" for this. This would mean to shuffle some things around in the tree: /usr/X11R5 -> /usr/local/X11R5 /usr/local/emacs -> /usr/local/emacs-19.25 /usr/local/lib/perl, /usr/local/bin/perl -> /usr/local/perl-4.036 ... - Packages consisting of just a binary should place them into a public directory (/usr/local/bin) where all such binaries are collected. Candidates are e.g. bash, tcsh, ... Corresponding manpages to into /usr/local/man. - Packages that have only one or a few binaries but many other files should be placed in a subdirectory below /usr/local, with links in /usr/local/bin pointing to those binaries. This way, users have to include only /usr/local/bin into their search path. - Additional thoughts could be spent on a pkg-system as under SVR4 or Lin*x, which automates and simplifies the installation process (I think of wu-ftpd-2.4, where it would be necessary to modify /etc/inetd.conf). For now, use the EasyInstall-scripts. - Please add a readme-file. This file should consist of a header containing several keywords (some of which may be ommitted). The ReadMe-text itself is separated from the header by a single blank line (which can be left out by itself if there is not ReadMe-text but only a header). The following keywords may appear in the header: Author: Name and email-address of the program's author Uploader: Name & email-address of the file's uploader Descr: A short description, which can be longer than one line, the following lines have to be indented by tabs or spaces. Keywords: Any keywords you'd like to mention, will be searchable by search-engine (not yet, RSN!) - Place your uploads on ftp.uni-regensburg.de in /pub/NetBSD-Amiga/incoming and send me () mail about it. So much for now.
