From: farris@ivory.rtsg.mot.com (Dan Farris) Subject: Lamp specs (in reference to Indiana Jones problems) Date: Mon, 1 Nov 1993 10:54:36 CST Here is some data on that 555 bulb: Voltage 6.3, Amps 0.15, Mean Spherical Candle Power 0.33, Rated Average Life, 5000 hours. Here's what looks to be an excellent replacement for your situation: #159 V 6.3, A 0.15, MSCP 0.38, Life 200000. Some comments: "Rated Average Life is not necessarily the same as service life: shocks, vibration, voltage fluctuations, temperature and other environmental influences may result in shorter service life." It's also interesting to see how voltage affects the lamp life. 110% of the rated voltage results in the expected life being only 0.35 of that at nominal voltage. 120% voltage results in 0.1 times the expected life. So, considering that the environment is rather hostile, if they are indeed supplying too much voltage for the bulbs, it's not hard to figure out that they're going to fail pretty quickly!
