LISTENERS' TRASHBAG Edited by Sven Gonzalez

LT NOTES

In a letter just received from the BBC MS, she informs us that
she has recently gotten married and should henceforth be known as
the BBC MRS. (Glad you liked the lime-green VOA nightie. Hope
the honeymoon in the Falklands is everything you want it to be. -
sg)

Many listeners have complained since Radio Uganda banned burping
and passing gas on the air. I'm sure you'll be happy to know
that I've decided to fill that much needed gap in shortwave
programming. Beginning next month, I will sneeze and let the
telephone ring on my weekly "World of Jammers" program. (sg)

NON-UGANDAN DX NEWS

MEXICO: La Hora Mas o Menos 9500-9800v with time checks on the
hour, more or less. Daily except Sundays, holidays, and after
the chief engineer has tied one on, from 0930-2230, more or less.
(Hollister) New station, El Ano Exacto, will broadcast on 13690
on December 31 only from 2359-2401. (Rumbley)

PERU: Radio magnate Juan Valdez has announced the formation of a
new broadcasting network named for himself, the "Cadena Juan del
Peru". Member stations include Radio Juan Cavelica, Radio Juan
Cayo, and Radio Juan Tadosmil. (Dan Muir)

RWANDA: According to station manager Jean-Claude Duvalmobutu, RTV
Rwandaise will become RRTTY Rwandaise starting September 1.
Duvalmobutu says the station cannot afford the TV realy
transmitters to cover Rwanda's hilly terrain, and RTTY is more
easily picked up on regular SW sets. Programming will include
transcripts of "Dallas" and "Meet the Press". Locally-originated
programming will commence following delivery of a keyboard.
(BBCMRS)

ZAMBIA: "We would like to clarify our earlier declaration that
all our programs will be oval-shaped. Please note that our
newscasts remain triangular." (letter from Radio Zambia, direct)

UNIMPORTANT DX NEWS

BENIN: This country is considering a name change to "Benign", to
"show that we're really a bunch of nice guys." (Sweden Calling
Computer Hackers #6529 via sg)

CANADA: One night last week when I tuned in CBC's "As It Happens"
program all I heard was dead air. I decided to find out why, so
I called CBC HQ in Toronto. They said nothing was happening.
(Andre Carbonneau, PQ). That's been happening a lot lately. (sg)

ECUADOR: Several members of the International Association of
Satanic DXers broke into HCJB's main transmitter building on
August 7. Their intention was to sacrifice a virgin by frying
her in the RF of the 500 kW transmitter's main power tube.
Engineer John McCoy, however, heard the noise and went to
investigate. He scared them away by making a cross of two
rolled-up reception reports. The girl escaped in the confusion.
("Bahamas Daily Whoppie Cushion" via Jack Mann). Not so unusual.
They tried to do the same thing at a local AM station during
their convention in Tulsa last year. (sg)

PAPUA-NEW GUINEA: Radio Western Lowlands and Radio Southern
Lowlands are now inactive following recent flashfloods (Tedium
Network)

PERU: Radio Inferior heard at 0330 on 5357 w/ apologies for weak
transmitter (Bill Rumbley). I believe their interval signal is
the first six notes from Pedro Morazo's "Huayno in A Major". (sg)

SANDI ARABIA: Despite reports to the contrary, BSKSA insists that
DXers who send the station incorrect reception reports will NOT
have their hands cut off (Bill Kyle).

TANZANIA: R Tanzania reported on July 17 that Director of
Broadcasting John Wakati warned RT journalists that being
creative does not mean bragging about their sexual exploits on
the air (BBCMRS).

GRANNIES CLANNIES

THE VOICE OF THE NEAR MARTYRS: 6980 *0400-0415 w/ commentary on
the importance of living comfortably in a friendly country and
working at a clandestine radio station as part of the
revolutionary struggle (Carson Humboldt).

VOICE OF THE FREE OMANI BIOCHEMISTS: Noted on 11595 at 1945-2011*
w/ talk on the role of proteins in the people's revolutionary
struggle (Jack Mann). Sure of ID? This time and frequency
listed at Radio Liberated Biochemists of Oman, per BBCMRS (sg).

LA VOZ DEL KID: New anti-Castro clannie apparently connected to
former pirate "Kids Playing Radio" (BBCMRS).

DX PEEK-A-BOO

IDENTIFIED: According to a letter from our Peruvian
correspondent, Mary Bas-Culotte, the station recently logged by a
few North American DCers on 5064.7 and tentatively presumed to be
a new Peruvian, Radio Canera, is actually a new Colombian, Radio
Incontinente. The station gives local IDs infrequently,
prefering to use the network ID, "CANERA", which is the new short
name of the familiar Cadena Neumatica Radial. Radio Incontinente
does indeed use the slogan "La Voz de los que tienen dinero."
(via sg).

PUBLICATIONS: Just received first issue of the new publication
"The International DX Inquirer", published by "The International
Inquirer", owners of shortwave station WLIQ ("For people with low
IQs, like me!"). Front page headlines as follows:
"ELVIS ALIVE!!!! Spotted cleaning the johns at WRNO!!"
"Yet ANOTHER sex scandal at Radio Cairo!!"
"In exclusive interview, VOA's Philomena Jury reveals,
'I want to have Joe Adamov's baby.'"
Needless to say, great reading! (sg)
