I have a very small Linux (RedHat 5.1) installation on a 486 using two of the old generation hard disks (201 + 125 MB). It is a temporary installation for the study of sounds only, but I have X on it like a normal desktop. So, anything larger than that will be sufficient for a working Linux environment. For the applications that come on the RedHat CD, about 770 MB will be taken for a full install in the /usr directory. The root (/) will require anything more than 30 MB; a size of 100 MB is an overkill. Swap space: if you have large memory, then a swap partition of the same size of the memory will be enough. Then you need a /home partition, starting at about 50MB. If you can afford 1 GB for home, that will be great. Hello,    I just got Red Hat Linux 5.1  I am currently running Windows 98 on a 6GBHard drive with two partitions C: and D:.  I do have a program called Partition It!I think Quarterdeck still makes that.  How much disk space should I consider allocating for Linux?  I may have to wait and get another disk drive if Linux takes up too much space.  I would be a newbie to Linux with some exposure to it in the past. Thanks,Bruce
