INTERNATIONAL RADIO DAYS--This gathering will be held at the International
Congress Center in West Berlin May 26-29, 1989. A preliminary program has
been published. This and additional information can be obtained by writing to
International Radio Days, World Trade Center, Boulevard Emile Jacqmain 162,
bte 12, B-1210 Brussels, Belgium. The deadline for registration is February
28, 1989.
BHUTAN--Updating SCDX-2019, the Bhutan Broadcasting Service has been heard
11:00-15:00 hrs on 6035 kHz. English was heard 14:18-15:00 hrs. (BBC

BRAZIL--A Brazilian religious station, Radio Nuevas de Paz, has been heard
from 09:00 hrs on 9515 kHz. No location was mentioned. (Sergio Castro
Martinez, Chile) Does anyone have more information about this station? Radio
Ahanguera is the new name of Radio Araguaia on 4905 kHz. ("Shortwave

COSTA RICA--Radio for Peace International was recently heard at 21:45 hrs on
21556 kHz. Also heard at 23:04 hrs onwards with Glenn Hauser's program "World
of Radio", on 21578 kHz. ("Fine Tuning", USA)
CYPRUS--The Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation broadcasts in Greek to the United
Kingdom Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays 22:15-22:45 hrs on 6030 and 7180 kHz.

GREECE--The Voice of Greece has been heard in English 19:30-19:50 hrs,
followed by news in French and German, on the new frequency of 6225 kHz.
Italian has been heard on this frequency at 16:00 hrs. (Andreas Mieth, GDR

GUAM--KSDA, AWR Asia, is now on the air in English to Indonesia 00:00-01:00
hrs on 15125 kHz, to China 02:00-03:00 hrs (weekends) on 17865 kHz, and to
India 16:00-17:00 hrs on 11980 kHz. KSDA is using 13720 kHz 10:00-17:00 and
22:00-02:00 hrs. (Dieter Lippman and Alexander Becker, both GDR)
INDONESIA--Himpunan Bhakti Sosial Radio is a new private non-commercial
station in Jakarta, broadcasting 10:00-11:00 and 15:00-22:00 hrs on 2690 kHz
(announcing 2670). Fox Radio is a new commercial station in Purwakarta, West
Java, on the air from around 22:30 hrs to 17:00 hrs on 3170 kHz. RRI
Palangkaraya has been heard from around 08:00 hrs to 17:00 hrs on 3905 kHz
and RRI Bukkittingi from around 10:00 hrs to 22:00 hrs on 3910 kHz. (Aboe

IRELAND--Beginning January 1st, most of the Irish pirate radio stations
closed down as government legislation went into effect imposing heavy fines
for unlicenced broadcasting. Radio Dublin has remained on 6910 kHz and has
applied for a court injunction to stop the legislation. (BBC Monitoring)
The Voice of the Republic of Ireland has been heard testing on Fridays at
21:00 hrs on 6135 kHz, claiming 2 kW and a second transmitter on 27830 kHz.
(Anthony Gallagher, Ireland) In the future, unlicenced Irish stations will be
taken up under "Unofficial Radio".
MONGOLIA--Radio Ulan Bator is now scheduled to broadcast: In English to the
Pacific 09:10-09:40 hrs on 12015 and 21770 kHz, to the Far East 12:00-12:30
hrs on 9615 and 12015 kHz, to South Asia 14:45-15:15 hrs on 9575 and 15305
kHz, and to Europe 19:40-20:10 hrs on 9645 and 11870 kHz. In French
17:20-19:10 hrs on 9985 and 11780 kHz and daily except Wednesdays and
weekends 20:15-20:45 hrs on 9645 and 11870 kHz. (Richard Schilling, West

NETHERLANDS--Radio Netherlands is now broadcasting (presumeably in English)
to South and East Asia 14:30-15:25 hrs on a new frequency of 15150 kHz,
relayed from Madagascar. 17605 kHz from Flevo is also reported. The broadcast
at 11:30-12:25 hrs has a new frequency from Flevo, 21615 kHz (one reporter
says this frequency is from Madagascar). The transmission to East Africa
16:30-17:25 hrs is now on 15560 kHz. (Stephanie Ip, Mauritius, Ashoka N.

SYRIA--As mentioned a couple of weeks ago, the German program from Radio
Damascus is now 18:00-19:00 hrs, followed by French, with English at 20:00
hrs. These programs can still be heard on 9950 and 12085 kHz. (Dieter

TURKEY--The Turkish Police Radio in Ankara is on the air daily until 15:00
hrs on 6340 kHz. It's been heard in North America from 04:57 hrs. (Jean
Rodier, France and "Fine Tuning", USA) The Turkish Meteorlogical Station has
been noted from 05:09 hrs on 6900 kHz. (Vladmir Cucura in "Fine Tuning")
UNITED KINGDOM--BBC Radio Hereford and Worcester is now testing on 738 and
819 kHz, in parallel with 94.7 and 104 MHz FM. This station is due to open on
February 14th, 1989. The next two BBC local stations to open this year are
BBC CWR (Coventry and Warwickshire Radio) and BBC Wiltshire Sound. (Simon

USA--The new station WSHB in Cypress Creek, South Carolina is expected to
start testing in January, with the following schedule: 00.00-02:00 hrs on
11980 and 13760 kHz, 02:00-04:00 hrs on 9745 and 13760 kHz, 04:00-08:00 hrs
on 6005 and 9455 kHz, 08:00-10:00 hrs on 9495 kHz, 12:00-14:00 hrs on 13760
kHz, 14:00-16:00 hrs on 11580 and 17640 kHz, 20:00-22:00 hrs on 15225 and
17750 kHz, and 22:00-00:00 hrs on 17640 kHz. ("PLAY-DX")
KUSW will no longer answer every report with a QSL card, but new cards will
be issued when the frequencies change in Spring, 1989. An unscheduled program
in German, for Canada, has been heard 15:30-16:00 hrs Sundays only on 15650
kHz. Fair signals have been noted on 15650 kHz around 18:45 hrs. (Dieter

WCSN can now be heard until 20:00 hrs on 21645 kHz, 20:00-22:00 hrs on 11650
kHz, and from 22:00 hrs on 9495 kHz. (Adrian Hunkeler)
WMLK in Pennsylvania is on the air 04:00-07:00 and 17:00-20:00 hrs on 9465
kHz, daily except Saturdays. (Marcel Rommerts)
ZAIRE--Radio Bukavu is on the air 03:45-07:00 hrs with news in Swahili at
04:10, news in French at 04:30 and 06:25 hrs, and a relay of news from the
national station in Kinshasa at 05:00. Broadcasts have also been heard
17:00-18:00 hrs on 4846 kHz, a slight change from 4839 kHz. (BBC Monitoring)
