GREETINGS--We've received a letter from Arne Skoog, the founder and long time
editor of Sweden Calling DXers. Arne is visiting his daughter and her family
in Tasmania and during his trip round the world Arne has been meeting with
old and new DX friends. In his letter Arne sends greeting to all his friends
which of course includes all contributors and listeners to the program!
EUROPEAN DX COUNCIL--The Swedish DX Federation and DX Listeners Club of
Norway are arranging a "Scandinavian DX Meeting" this coming summer which is
also serving as the EDXC's annual gathering. The meeting will be held in
Morokulien--a joint territory on the Swedish-Norwegian border June 16-18. For

ALBANIA--The French transmission from Radio Tirana at 18:00-18:30 now uses
the new frequency of 6080 kHz in parallel with medium wave 1215 kHz.

ANTARCTICA--Radio Nacional Arcangel San Gabriel on 15476 kHz can sometimes be
heard on an extended schedule until after 01:00. Reception is possible after
22:00 when Radio France International via Gabon leaves 15475 kHz. (Mauno

ASCENSION ISLAND--In September this year the BBC will take two new 250 kW
relay transmitters into operation. Four new antennas will be installed at
the British relay base. (BBC "Wave Guide" via Kurt Enders, West Germany)
BOLIVIA--Radio Litoral, Cochabamba is reported to broadcast from 11:00
until 02:00 on both 1510 and 5025 kHz. (Unknown contributor who
unfortunately forgot to put his or her name on the letter)
CANADA--Radio Canada International has added a monthly corner for radio
amateurs to its weekly "Shortwave Listeners' Digest". The new program
can be heard on the fourth week of the month. The times are: Saturday
at 21:37 to Africa, at 22:07 to Europe and at 23:07 to the Carribbean.
The following Sunday at 01:07 to the Americas and on the Tuesday after
the fourth week at 12:30 and 13:30 to North America. (Andre Schmidt,

ETHIOPIA--English to Europe from the Voice of Ethiopia is now between
15:00 and 16:00 on 9560 and 7165 kHz. (Salil Paul, India) According to
the World Radio TV Handbook 1989 this transmission is directed to East

ICELAND--Correcting SCDX-2019, the early evening broadcast from Rikisutvarpid
is between 18:55 and 19:30. (Jens Weimar, West Germany)
IRAN--Updating SCDX-2025 the Voice of The Islamic Republic of Iran has
an additional English broadcast between 14:00 and 15:00 on 702 kHz
medium wave intended for northern Iran and the southwestern USSR.

LAOS--Lao National Radio has been heard with a broadcast in English at
22:00 on the new frequency of 9595 kHz. (Lubosh Stejskal,

NORWAY--Along with improving conditions on the higher frequency bands
Radio Norway International will make further use of the 11 meter band
beginning March 5th. The frequency 25730 kHz will be in use during the
transmissions beginning at 06:00, 11:00, 14:00, 15:00, 16:00 and 18:00.

PHILIPPINES--Radio Veritas Asia in English to South Asia is now at
01:30-02:00 on 15365 kHz with 50 kW and on 15325 kHz with 100 kW. At
15:00-15:30 frequencies are 15220 kHz with 50 kW and 15465 kHz with 100 kW.

SINGAPORE--During January and February this year the BBC offers an
opportunity to get a QSL card from the relay station at Kranji,
Singapore. Send reception reports to the BBC as follows: Two reports
on different frequencies from Kranji or one frequency reported on two
different days. Additionally you must include a reception report on the

SRI LANKA--Trans World Radio uses new 11830 instead of 11920 kHz during
the English broadcast to India at 12:00-12:30. 5990 kHz is in parallel.

5990 kHz is also used between 00:00 and 01:30 for broadcasts in South Indian
vernacular languages. The transmitter has a power of 12.5 kW. Trans World
Radio also has plans to install a 100 kW transmitter at Puttalam where their
present medium wave station of 400 kW is situated.
The construction of the Voice of America relay station in Puttalam is well
behind schedule. It will be at least five years until anything comes out of

UNITED KINGDOM--The BBC will leave its long time used frequency of 18080 kHz
as of July 1st 1989. That is a result of The World Administrative Radio
Conference in 1979. (Andre Schmidt)
USSR--Radio Vilnius in Lithuania has been heard broadcasting a DX
program in English towards the end of the English transmission between
23:00 and 23:30. (Kurt Enders) The frequencies used by Radio Vilnius at
that time are 7500, 9765, 13645, 15180 and 15455 kHz. (Lubomir

Radio Moscow World Service has also been observed with a DX program in
English on Wednesdays at about 22:45 . (Kurt Enders)
