SATELLITE-TV--Sky began operations from the Astra satellite on February 5th,
with four channels. The frustrating thing is that Sky owner Rupert Murdoch
has changed his mind, and the entertainment channel Sky Television is only
now beamed to the British Isles, along with Sky News and Sky Movie. The only
Murdoch channel that will be available to people in the rest of Europe is
EuroSport.
Ironically, since there's very little cable-TV in Britain, and since the dish
antennas to watch Astra are only just arriving in the shops, very few people
can see Sky Television. So basically, we've all lost Sky Channel, and gained
a sports channel in its place.
France has found something to do with its TDF-1 satellite. The French Canal
Plus is launching a similar pay-TV service to West Germany, beginning in
early 1990, and Canal Plus says it is applying to use TDF-1.
A satellite with no customers yet at all, the Nordic Tele-X, is due for
launch on April 1st, the Feast of All Fools. Tele-X carries three
high-powered channels, built by Sweden, Norway, and Finland for almost 300
million dollars. But, since the three countries don't want to provide extra
funds for programming, there isn't any yet. (George Wood)
AFGHANISTAN--Updating SCDX-2019, 4940 kHz seems to have replaced 4760 kHz for
the external service of Radio Afghanistan in Pashto and Dari from 07:00-09:00
and in English at 09:00-10:30. (BBC Monitoring)
BULGARIA--Radio Sofia will use the frequency of 11735 kHz for its English
program at 04:00-05:00 and 21:30-22:00 from March 5th. (Andre Tatter, West

CHAD--Radio Nationale Tchadienne has a new program schedule for its French
news: there are summaries at 13:00 and 18:30 and the main half hour news
broadcasts are at 13:30 and 19:00. Frequencies remain 4904.5 kHz and 7120

FRANCE/GABON--Radio France International has signed another agreement with
Africa No. 1 for the lending of a transmitter in Moyabi, Gabon. It will allow
RFI to broadcast 8 hours per day instead of 7. (Robert Chear, France)
GREECE--The Voice of Greece carries Portuguese at 23:00-23:15 on 7430 and
9905 kHz. (The program can also be heard on the unannounced frequency of
9395 kHz).Spanish is 23:15-23:25 on 7430, 9395 and 11595 kHz for Central

GUAM--According to its latest schedule, Adventist World Radio Asia broadcasts
in English at 00:00-01:00 on 15125 kHz, 10:00-11:00 on 13720 kHz, 16:00-17:00
on 11980 kHz, and 23:00-24:00 on 15125 kHz. On weekends there is a broadcast
at 02:00-03:00 on 17865 kHz. (Friedrich Buettner, West Germany).
13720 kHz replaces 9465, 9830 and 11700 kHz for all languages because of
frequent interference from other stations. KSDA's DX program "DX Asiawaves"
is produced in cooperation with the Australian Radio DX Club and is broadcast
on Saturdays at 16:30 on 11980 kHz and on Sundays at 02:30 on 17865 and at
23:30 on 15125 kHz. (Yimber H. Gaviria and Joachim Maurer and Volker

ITALY--Radio Spoleto International has been reactivated and can be heard on
7140 kHz. (Flavio Vendramini, Italy) Radio Scandinavia says it can be heardon
9860 kHz on Saturdays at 08:00 via the Italian Radio Relay Service.
JORDAN--Updating SCDX-2025, Radio Jordan's English service starts at 05:00
(and not 06:30) and continues until 14:15 on 11955 kHz. (BBC Monitoring)
LUXEMBOURG--"Radio M" (Rundfunkmission der evangelisch-methodist Kirche)
broadcasts religious programmes in German via Radio Luxembourg on Thursdays
and Fridays at 04:15-04:30 on 1440 kHz, and 22:15-22:30 on 6090 kHz. The
address for QSL cards is Rundfunkmission, Frechstrasse 4, 7000 Stuttgart 80,

MONGOLIA--Radio Ulan Bator started to broadcast in Japanese on January 20th
at 12:30 and at 22:10 on 12015 and 9615 kHz. (BBC Monitoring)
NETHERLANDS ANTILLES--On January 7th, TWR introduced an weekly 10 minute DX
program in English called "Bonaire Wavelength". It is on the air on Saturdays
at 03:30 on 9535 and 11930 kHz and beamed to North America but well audible
in Europe. (Volker Wachtendorf, West Germany).
ROMANIA--Radio Bucharest in German was heard on different frequencies than
those listed on the WRTH 89. 15405 kHz at 12:00-12:30 (11940 and 9690 kHz in
parallel), 5955 kHz at 18:00-18:30 (9690 and 7195 kHz in parallel) and 7130
kHz at 20:30-21:00 (7195 and 5990 kHz in parallel). (Friedrich Buettner)
UNITED ARAB EMIRATES--The Voice of the UAE from Abu Dhabi can be heard
22:00-00:00 in English on 6170, 9595 and 11965 kHz. It relays UAE's Capital
Radio at 22:30-23:00. (anonymous, Germany, Matthew King, England and Jiri

UNITED STATES--KUSW now starts broadcasting at 00:00 on 11695 kHz instead of
01:00. At that time, the Voice of America starts using the same frequency
which causes some interference. At 03:00, 9815 replaces 11965 kHz as

USSR--Radio Minsk will broadcast in German at 18:30-19:00 from March 5th on
Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays on 6010, 6090, 6165, 7240 (replacing 7115
kHz) and 7420 kHz. (Achim ?, West Germany and Massimo Cerveglieri, Italy).
UNOFFICIAL RADIO--The Voice of Afghanistan (hostile to the Afghan government)
can be heard with news in English 08:58-09:10 on 6100 and 5300 kHz. The
program in Spanish for Cubans in Africa continues to be observed on 6045 kHz
at 17:00-17:55 and repeated at 05:00-05:55. (BBC Monitoring)
INTERNATIONAL WATERS--Updating SCDX-2016, Radio Caroline has begun a new rock
music service called "Caroline 819" nightly at 22:00-04:00 on 819 kHz on
medium waves. Separate programming is carried on Caroline's other frequency
of 558 kHz. (Bradley Allen, England).
CLUB NEWS--The short wave listeners club Saar invites all DX listeners to its
8th interregional DX meeting on Saturday March 18th in Gaggeanu Ottenau
(restaurant "Strauss" in Marxstrasse 12). The main guest is Iris Rauscher of
