SWEDEN--There's a change in the Radio Sweden schedule to East Asia 12:00-
14:00 hrs, beginning Feb. 22. Because of poor reception, 15190 kHz replaces
9565. This applies to Russian at 12:00 and 13:30, English at 12:30, and
Swedish at 13:00 hrs.

SATELLITE RADIO--Britain's first satellite radio station has closed amidst
rumors of financial and technical difficulties. Radio Nova, launched only
last May via Intelsat V, boasted a host of top radio presenters, but many of
these recently left the station.

ILR stations in the UK who have carried the program at night were told at
short notice that programs would cease shortly. Nova has carried only a few
commercials and was recently offered for sale. (Paul Rusling, England)

AFGHANISTAN--Updating SCDX-2029, the Radio Afghanistan external service in
English can be heard 09:00-10:30 hrs on 15435 and 17720 kHz to South Asia.
There is interference on 15435 kHz from Radio France International when it
signs on at 10:00 hrs. (P. Duryodhana and S. Thiagarajan, India)

BOLIVIA--A DX program can be heard Saturdays at 03:40 hrs from Radio Fides on
4845 and 6155 kHz. (Luis Caso Galvan, Peru) Radio La Cruz del Sur has been
observed with a religious program from 23:00 hrs until sign-off at 23:58 on
4875 kHz. (Henry Bergstroem in "Short Wave Bulletin", Sweden) This station is
listed in the WRTH at 09:30-13:00 hrs irregular. 

ECUADOR--Updating SCDX-2030, here are some further changes in the HCJB
schedule beginning March 5th: German will be 04:30-05:00 hrs (weekdays) on
9585 kHz; 06:00-06:30 hrs on 9610, 9655, and 11835 kHz; 06:30-06:45 hrs
(weekdays) on 9610 kHz; 18:30-19:00 hrs on 15270, 17790, and 21480 kHz; and
21:00-21:30 hrs on 15270 and 17790 kHz. 15270 kHz is used only weekdays.

English can be heard at 06:00 hrs on 6230, 9720, and 11775 kHz. (Ivan Penev,
Bulgaria) HCJB has retimed some English DX programs. The former 02:30 hrs
broadcasts of DX Partyline on Sundays and Tuesdays and Ham Radio Today on
Thursdays are now at 02:00 hrs, (William Westenhaver, Quebec, Canada)

FEBC--The Far Eastern Broadcasting Company can be heard in German from a
number of countries: Transmissions from KGEI in the United States are Sundays
01:00-01:15 hrs on 15280 kHz.

Broadcasts from the Philippines are weekdays except Tuesdays 18:45-19:00 hrs
(Thursdays from 18:30) on 9845 kHz.

Programs from HLAZ in South Korea can be heard Saturdays 16:00-16:45 hrs on
1566 kHz.

Transmissions from KFBS in Saipan are Sundays 15:30-16:00 hrs, Thursdays
19:00-19:30, and Saturdays 19:15-19:30 hrs on 9465 kHz. (Michael Diener, GDR)

GABON--Updating SCDX-2030, Africa No. 1 has been heard since Feb. 1 08:00-
16:00 hrs on 17630 kHz. This appears to replace 15200 kHz, which was
previously used 08:00-17:00 hrs. (BBC Monitoring)

INDIA--The new 10 kW shortwave transmitter at Port Blair in the Andaman
Islands began testing on December 22nd. It can be heard during local daytime
on 7180 kHz. Early mornings and evenings 4760 kHz is used. This transmitter
will initially carry the home service of All India Radio. 

The new 50 kW shortwave transmitter at Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, designed
to serve Nepal, has been installed and testing is expected to begin shortly.

INDONESIA--The Voice of Indonesia in Djakarta has a program in French 19:00-
20:00 hrs on 7125, 11790, and 15150 kHz. (Roger Meunier, France) German can
be heard on these same frequencies 18:00-19:00 hrs. (Ivan Penev)

JAPAN--Updating SCDX-1998, the Far East Network, the Japanese affiliate of
the AFRTS, has now dropped the use of its allocated shortwave outlets, as has
AFRTS everywhere else in the world (except Antarctica). The Toyko station
operates now on 810 kHz. Other MW, FM, and TV channels remain the same. (F.

KAMPUCHEA--The Voice of the People of Kampuchea has been heard at 00:00 and
12:00 hrs on 11940 kHz. But the other listed channel, 9635 kHz, can no longer

MALAYSIA--The Voice of Malaysia has been heard at 08:05 hrs on 15295 kHz.
Also announced are 6175 and 9750 kHz. (Luis Caso Galvan)

PERU--Radio del Pacifico has now stopped using the second harmonic of 4975
kHz, or 9950 kHz, and it has returned to 9675. This is in parallel with 4975
kHz. Radio Tacna can be heard 11:00-05:00 hrs on 9505 kHz. (Luis Caso
Galvan). Radio Tacna is listed on variable 9486 kHz.
   
PHILIPPINES--Radio Veritas Asia has been heard in Vietnamese at 11:00 hrs on
9505 kHz and at 14:00 hrs on 6010 kHz. English can be heard at 01:30 on 15275
and 15365 kHz. There is also a program in Hindi at 15:00 hrs on 15465 kHz.
(Sitangshu Mowli Mazomder) The broadcast on 15465 kHz is fact in several

USA--WYFR, Family Radio, is broadcasting to Europe and Africa in French:
06:00-07:00 hrs on 6015 and 9615 kHz; 18:00-19:00 hrs on 15566, 17612.5,
17735, and 21625 kHz; and 20:00-21:00 hrs on 11580 kHz. (Francois Chalory,

A new religious broadcaster will be testing from New Mexico on February 25th
15:15-18:00 hrs on 15140 kHz. (Finn Krone on Adventist World Radio Europe)

DX CONTEST--The Danish Shortwave Clubs International is organizing a contest
called the Grand Tour with Cancer and Capricorn Mar. 10-19. Participants are
to listen to as many broadcast stations as possible for a minimum of 15
minutes on frequencies between 5950 and 26100 kHz. The tropical bands may be
used if there are no shortwave signals available. Each participant will
receive a diploma. The contest fee is 5 IRCs, which would be sent before Mar.
31st to: Jaroslav Bohac, CSLA 1900/11, 400 11 Usti n L, Czechoslavakia.

DX CONFERENCES--This year's European DX Council meeting will be held June 16-
18 at Morokulien on the Swedish-Norwegian border. Registration materials can

The 1989 Association of North American Radio Clubs Convention will be held in
St. Petersburg Beach, Florida July 14-16. More details and  registration

and interviews on Tuesdays since 1948. RS broadcasts to North America:

      02:30 hrs on 9695 and 11705 kHz
 
To Europe, Africa, and the Middle East:

      15:30 hrs on 15240 kHz (East Africa)
      18:00 hrs on 1179, 6065, 7265, and 11845 kHz
      21:00 hrs on 1179, 6065 and 9655 kHz
