AFGHANISTAN--Radio Afghanistan can be heard with programs in Urdu 12:00-14:30
hrs on the announced frequencies of 4775 and 6100 kHz, and on unannounced

ALASKA--KNLS can now be heard in English: at 08:00 hrs on 11715, 15:00 hrs on
11650, 16:00 hrs on 12025, and at 18:00 hrs on 11650 kHz. (P.S. Sayee Jayaram

ANGOLA--Emmissora Provincial da Huila has been heard around 21:20 hrs on 4820
kHz, in parallel with Luanda on 4953 kHz, during a football match between

COSTA RICA--Radio for Peace International has recently been heard around
03:30 hrs on 13660 kHz. This signal is not stable and varies a bit. (DX
Editor) Radio Impacto, which supports the anti-Nicaraguan government Contras,
has been heard at 03:00 hrs on around 5045 kHz, replacing 5030. (Christer

ECUADOR--Radio Catolica Nacuional has been heard at 01:15 hrs on the new
frequency of 5030 kHz, recently vacated by Radio Impacto in Costa Rica. This
replaces Rado Catolica's former frequency of 5055 kHz. (Jan Erik Oesterholm)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA--Radio Africa is on the air weekdays 17.00-22:00 hrs with
religious programs in English. Radio Africa has replaced 9852 kHz with a new
frequency of 9582 kHz. (Salil Kumar Paul, India)

GREECE--ERT Thessaloniki Radio Station Makedonias is broadcasting 18:00-20:00
hrs to Cyprus and the Mediterranean on a new frequency of 11610 kHz,
replacing 9935. This station can still be heard in Europe on the regular
frequencies of 9425 and 11595 kHz. (Peter Kvasz, Czechoslavakia)

GUAM--KTWR now broadcasts in English: 08:05-09:30 hrs to the Far East on
15210 kHz, 09:30-11:00 hrs to Australia 11805 kHz, and 15:00-16:35 hrs
(Mondays 17:05) to India on 11650 kHz. (Hayao Yoshioka, Japan and Mike Terry,

"DX Asiawaves" from Adventist World Radio's KSDA can now be heard Saturdays
16:30-16:45 hrs on 11980 kHz, Sundays at 02:30 on 11900 kHz and at 23:30 hrs
on 15125 kHz, and on MOndays at 10:30 hrs on 13720 kHz. This program is
produced in collaboration with the Australian Radio DX Club. (Kwon Dae-Geun,

MONGOLIA--Radio Ulan Bator is broadcasting to South East Asia in English
14:40-15:20 hrs on 9575 and 15305 kHz. (Joydeep Chatterjee and Sanil Deep,

Updating SCDX-2043, Radio Ulan Bator is broadcasting to Europe in English one
hour earlier, 18:45-19:15 hrs on 9985 and 11870 kHz. (Adrian Childs)

PHILIPPINES--Updating SCDX-2034, a newe program, called simply "DX" has been
heard on the FEBC. It is broadcast MOndays at 01:45 hrs on 15480 kHz, and
Thursdays at 15:40 hrs on 11850. (Salil Kumar Paul, India)

SRI LANKA--Trans World Radio is now broadcasting to Asia 12:00-13:00 hrs on
6010 kHz. (R.S. Rajesh, India) TWR has also been noted unstil sign-off at
16:14 hrs on a new frequency of 11955 kHz. (Valery N. Ostroverk, USSR)
     
The SLBC can be heard around 11:00 hrs on 17850 kHz. (Gavin Khoo, Singapore)

UNITED KINGDOM--The BBC is renovating its Skelton transmitter station, used
by the External Service since 1943. A GBP 3.3 million contract has been
awarded for new antenna support towers to replace some of the 39 guyed masts
currently in use. 13 guyed masts will be dismantled, while the design,
supply, and installation of 18 new self-supporting towers is in progress.

USA--WWCR, Worldwide Christian Radio, in Nashville, Tennessee was expected to
begin test transmissions in mid-May and regular broadcasting during the last
week of the month. WWCR will probably be on the air around 15:00-02:00 hrs on
15690 kHz and 02:00-06:00 hrs on 7520 kHz. (BBC Monitoring)

WWCR was heard testing on May 14th at 22:24 hrs on 15690 kHz. (Olle Alm in

In connection with the 1989 European DX Council Conference, being held June
15th-18th in Morokulien on the Swedish-Norwegian border, the Voice of America
is making a special broadcast. For the first time ever, VOA Europe is to be
broadcast on shortwave. The special EDXC transmission will be June 15 and 16
14:00-17:00 hrs, on 26040 kHz. (Kim Elliott, Voice of America)

CLUB NEWS--The European DX Council has released the 1989 edition of its "EDXC
Club List". This 16 page booklet gives details of each of the member and
observer clubs, together with information about the Association of North
American Radio Clubs and the South Pacific Association of Radio Clubs. The

The Canadian International DX Club is to hold the 1st annual Montreal
Shortwave Radio Festival on Saturday July 22, 1989 in Greenfield Park,
