BABY NEWS--Just a note from a proud father that Daniel MacClaren Wood was
born on July 5th. Mother and child are doing fine.

COMPUTER CORNER--A few weeks ago we mentioned that there was no way to get
through to our Radio Sweden mailbox on the FIDO-Net system of computer bulletin
boards from academic computer networks like Inter-Net. Well, a flury of
messages to our mailbox has proved us wrong. A number of people, including
Rui_Tao Dong, David Dodell, and not least Ralph Brandi have written about the
gateway between the two systems.

If you are on Internet or UUCP/Usenet, you can send messages to Sweden Calling
DXers using the following address:

        George.Wood.@f297.n202.z2.fidonet.org

Tom Sundstrom has sent us a number of new programs that he is selling for MS-
DOS and PS/2 computers. Tom won a World Radio TV Handbook award for his
shortwave software.

The latest edition of the English Language Shortwave Broadcast Schedules is a
database of more than 550 entries from more than 70 countries. You can search
for a particular country or see what is on the air at any time of the day. You
can print out information in a variety of formats. With the appropriate
interface and correct wiring of the serial cable, you can load the frequencies
directly into a JRC NRD-525 or a Kenwood R-5000 receiver.

You can edit the database yourself, or subscribe to Tom's update service.
Updates are available both from Tom's bulletin board, the Pinelands RBBS or by
disk.

Tom Sundstrom also has a utility logbook program that allows you to collect
information on utility stations reported in magazine columns and club bulletins
into one file. As you log the stations, you can add your logging information
and notes. You can also print out reports in different formats for submission
to various magazine columns.

Tom has also developed receiver control programs for the NRD-525 and R-5000
receivers. These require special hardware interfaces from the manufacturers,
but allow you to load lists of frequencies into the receiver memories, along
with a number of other features.

The English Language Shortwave Broadcast Schedules program costs USD 20, as
does the Utility DXers Logbook, plus shipping. The control programs are USD 50
each, plus shipping. Shipping is USD 2.50 in North America, USD 5 for airmail
to the rest of the world.

Tom Sundstrom has a number of other programs available. You can contact him by
mail to Box 2275, Vincentown, New Jersey 08088-2275, USA, or via MCI Mail to ID
244-6376. You can also call the Pinelands RBBS at American telephone number
609-859-1910.

ANGOLA--Updating SCDX-2049, the unidentified Angolan station reported two
weeks ago is probably Emissora Provincial de Cuando Cubango, which has been
heard at 20:45 hours on 4872.2 kHz. (Nils Jakobsson and Bjoern Fransson,
Sweden in ShortWave Bulletin) This station is listed in the WRTH as operating
irregularly on 4780 kHz. See also Mozambique.

BOLIVIA--Radio Perla del Agro in Cobija, Pando is a new station, which has
been heard from around 23:20 hours until sign off at 02:04 hours on 4600 kHz.
(Stefan Bjoern, ShortWave Bulletin, and PLAY-DX, Italy) Radio Perla del Agro
was also heard at the EDXC meeeting at Morokulien on the Swedish- Norwegian
border at 02:10 hours on 4600 kHz.

Radio Abaroa has been heard on 47l9.9 kHz. (ShortWave Bulletin) This
frequency was reported in SCDX-2046 as used by Radio Riberalta.

BOTSWANA--Radio Botswana has immediately leaped in to use 4830 kHz, recently
vacated by Africa No. 1 in Gabon. It's been heard there 18:30-20:00 hrs.
(Wian Stienstra, Netherlands) This would seem to replace 4820 kHz.

BURUNDI--Radiodiffusion du Burundi has been heard with programs in French
around l9:l5 hours on 3300 kHz and around l8:20 hours on 6140 kHz.
(Timofeyev, USSR in PLAY-DX)

CANADA--Updating SCDX-2047, Radio Canada International can also be heard in
English to Latin America at 01:00 and 02:00 hours on 13720 kHz and in French
to Europe at 18:30 hours on 13660 kHz. (Vidjit Vijaysanker, India)

COLOMBIA--Updating SCDX-2045, La Voz de la Cana, which was reported as
operating from Cali on 5068 kHz some weeks ago, has apparently nothing to do
with La Voz de la Cana in Cali but is more likely to be some kind of a
clandestine or pirate operation. (Henrik Klemetz, Sweden in PLAY-DX)

EQUATORIAL GUINEA--Updating SCDX-2045, Radio Africa is now scheduled 17:00-
23:00 hours on 7190 kHz according to information from Pan American
Broadcasting, Cupertino, California. (Salvatore Placanica, Italy and Ulrich
Berens, West Germany) Radio Africa has been observed with a religious program
and fair strength at 21:00 hours on 7189 kHz. (Finn Krone, Denmark in
ShortWave Bulletin)

From July 1st Radio Africa will also operate under the name of Radio East
Africa. These transmissions are scheduled to be on the air from 05:00 hours
to 14:00 hours on Saturdays and Sundays on 9585 kHz, targeted to Kenya,
Uganda and Tanzania. (A. A. Zijlstra, Netherlands)

GABON--On June 18th Africa No. 1 was observed on 9580 kHz at 19:00 hrs. This
frequency, which was in parallel with 15475 kHz, appears to replace 4830 kHz,
which was used 05:00-06:00 and 16:00-23:00 hrs. (BBC Monitoring)

IRELAND--Updating SCDX-2048, Radio Dublin is now back on the air 24 hours a
day on 1188 and 6912 kHz and FM 99.97 MHz. A station called WABC can also be
heard on FM 101.7 MHz. (Stuart Dobson, England)

MOZAMBIQUE--Radio Mozambique has been observed with the A program from 19:55
hours to sign off at 22:07 hours on 4872.4 kHz with fair to good strength
with popular music. (G. Zella, Italy and participants at the DX Camp outside
Copenhagen recently held by the Danish Shortwave Clubs International) See the
Angolan station mentioned above, can these actually be the same station? (DX
Editor)

NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS--KYOI, now belonging to the "Christian Science
Monitor", ceased operation on July 3rd for four months for the installation
of new transmitters. KYOI will return to normal full schedule programming in
November l989. (Vidjit Vijaysanker, India and Lau Tech Yew, Singapore)

PARAGUAY--Radio Nacional de Paraguay has been heard with soccer football
around 17:45 hours on 6025 kHz. (Gerardo Evangelista, Argentina) Radio
Encarnacion was noted at the end of May back on 11945 kHz after a period of
inactivity. (ShortWave Bulletin)

English 15:00-15:30 hours on 11740 and 15445 kHz and 01:30-02:00 hours on
15320 and 15360 kHz. (Salvatore Placanica, Italy: and Mansur Rahman, Vidjit
Vijaysanker, and Sanil Deep, all in India)

SRI LANKA--The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation has begun a new commercial
service in the Tamil language for Asian listeners from 11:15 hours to 13:15
hours on 882 kHz. (M. Ulaganathan, M. Ganesan, and M. Dhanagopalan, all
India)

TURKEY--The Voice of Turkey can now be heard in German 16:30-l7:25 hours and
l9:30-19:55 hours on 9825 kHz. (Andreas Mieth, GDR and P. Leuther, West
Germany) There are also broadcasts in English from the Voice of Turkey
20:00-21:00 hours and 22:00-23:00 hours, both on 9825 kHz. (Ulrich Berens)
