ALASKA--KNLS announces the following schedule effective September 24th 1989:
English: 08:00-09:00 on 9840 kHz, 15:00-16:00 and 16:00-17:00 on 7355 and
18:00-19:00 on 11650 kHz. Russian: 07:00-08:00 and 09:00-10:00 on 9840 kHz,
12:00-13:00 and 17:00-18:00 on 7355 and 19:00-20:00 on 9840 kHz. From
November 5th two new Russian programs will be broadcast: 05:00-06:00 to
Central Russia on 9785 kHz and at 06:00-07:00 to Eastern USSR on 7405 kHz.

AUSTRALIA--Radio Australia is currently conducting test transmissions as
follows: From the new transmitter in Brandon at 08:00-14:00 and 20:00-21:00
on 6020 kHz in English to Papua New Guinea and the South West Pacific.
From Shepparton at 06:00-09:30 on 11770 kHz in English and French to
Pacific. From Darwin at 01:00-09:30 on 17715 kHz to China and on the same
frequency at 13:00-14:30 to India and South Asia. From Canarvon at 01:00-
09:00 on 21525 kHz to India and South Asia. During Cricket playing days at
15:30-18:30 on 15245 kHz to Asia and 5995 kHz to Pacific. (Dieter Lippmann)
Test transmissions from Radio Australia are noted on 21525 kHz from before
13:45 until sign off at 14:30. (Paul Brems, Belgium)
VNG - the Australian Standard Frequency and Time Signal Station in New
South Wales has been granted an experimental license to transmit on 10 and 15
megaHertz until 30th November 1989. Transmission time at present is between
22:00 and 07:00 but may be changed from time to time depending on
interference complaints from overseas. The 24 hour transmission on 5

BELGIUM--Updating Sweden Calling DX-ers number 2055, "Radio 4 Internationale"
from the RTBF has a DX program every Sunday at 11:30 on 9925 kHz for Europe
and 25545 kHz for Africa. (Francois Chalory, France)
The BRT:s first Spanish broadcast at 20:30-21:00 has moved back from 15515
to 9925 kHz. 5910 and 1512 remain in parallel. (Paul Brems Belgium)
The BRT Television now brings "Tips for short wave listeners" on Teletext,
page 471. There usually is a list of Dutch programs from abroad and a
schedule of programs in English, French and German from one particular
"Radiostation of the week". (Paul Brems)
BRAZIL--A new station is operating on short wave since April this year:
Radio Nova Esperanza in Porto Alegre in the province of Rio Grande do Sul. It
uses the frequencies of Radio Pampa, namely 6160, 9550 and 11895 kHz.

BURMA--According to announcement, the Burma Broadcasting Service has changed
its name to "The Voice of Myanma". English programs can be heard on 5985 kHz
at 14:30-16:00 sign off. (Naoya Ohmori, Japan)
CHINA--Radio Bejing's English service to the Pacific at 08:30-09:25 uses the
new frequency of 17710 kHz. (Paul Brems)
IRELAND--Atlantic 252, the joint station to be launched by Ireland's RTE and
Radio Luxembourg has been heard testing on August 11th at 16:45 on 254 kHz.
(Lars Skoglund, Sweden) It will start regular broadcasting in September and
use 254 kHz until the new year when, under international agreement, it has to
move to 252 kHz. The station has joined the Radio Advertising Bureau. (RAB) ,
the New York-based association for the promotion of radio advertising which
is supported by some 3400 commercial radio stations. A spokesman said that
the initiative does not signal a rejection by Atlantic 252 of radio
organisations based in Europe. Atlantic 252 will become the the first
commercial station to be heard in daytime hours all across the British Isles.
RTL News, which provides news for the night service of Radio Luxembourg will
also provide Atlantic 252 with a supply of national/international news .

SOUTH KOREA--Changes in the Radio Korea schedule: French is broadcast at
16:00-16:45 on 9350 kHz, Russian at the same time on 11760 and 6576 kHz. For
the transmission between 09:00 and 09:45 two new frequencies are in use: 9325
and 9350 kHz, the latter also at 10:00-10:45. The languages for these
broadcasts are not mentioned. (Alexej Araum, Novosibirsk, USSR)
LEBANON--The Voice of Hope broadcasts between 04:00 and 22.00 on 945 and 6280
kHz. Stand-by frequencies are 684 and 6215 kHz. On the FM band 106.1 mHz is
used with 104.5 as stand-by frequency. The address to the station is
Marjayoun, Lebanon or Box 77, Metullah, Israel.
The daily programs are broadcast as follows: Between 04:00 and 14.30 medium
wave and short wave frequencies are in parallel. Arabic is broadcast at
04:00-06:00, English 06:00-10:00 and Arabic 10:00-15:30. On medium wave at
15:30-16:30 there is a Slavic broadcast and 16:30-22:00 English. On short
wave between 14:30 and 16:30 English and from 16:30 until 20:30 Slavic
languages and Turkish/Azerbaijani/Armenian. Between 20:30 and 22:00 English,
which is not in parallel with medium wave.
The Voice of the Mountain is operating on 1080 kHz and 108 mHz but not on
6052 kHz as mentioned in the World Radio and TV Handbook. News in French is
at 10:05-10:15, 13:05-13:15 and 15:05-15:15 during the period of daylight
saving time.
The Voice of the South, Marjayoun uses 1485 kHz and 99.9 mHz. 1395 kHz
from Tyre is not in use. Programs are in Arabic only between 04:00 and 18:00
with news at 04:30, 05:30, 07:30, 09:30, 11:30. 13:30, 15:30 and 17:30. (Bo

TURKEY--Updating Sweden Calling DX-ers number 2051, The Voice of Turkey in
English to Western Europe at 20:00-2050 and 22:00-22:50 has moved from 9825

UNITED KINGDOM--There is a new "Special Events Station" serving the town of
Basildon in Essex called "Baz Radio - The Anniversary AM". Their next
broadcast will be on August 28th at 10:00-18:00 on 1584 kHz. (Bradley Allen,

VIETNAM--Hoang Lien Son is noted on 6708 kHz. Transmissions are between 10:00
and 10:30. (on Tuesdays and Saturdays until 11:40) and from 11:45 until
13:00. Cao Bang is using 6575 kHz at 12:00-14:00. Bac Thai can be heard on
5985 kHz at 14:30-16:00 sign/off. (Naoya Ohmori)
YUGOSLAVIA--Radio Yugoslavia has introduced a new program called "Radio Ham's
Corner" which is broadcast at around 21:40. It deals with with both DX-ing
and amateur radio "...and is very similar to Sweden Calling DX-ers but
concerns itself to Yugoslavian listeners and their comments. (Dannen Wells,
U.K.) Unfortunately our contributor does not mention any frequency for this
new program but back in Sweden Calling DX-ers number 2046 we reported Radio
Yugoslavia on 7215, 9620, 11735 and 15105 kHz at 21:00-21:45. (DX-editor)

Sweden Calling DXers is the world's oldest radio program for shortwave
listeners. Radio Sweden has presented this round-up of radio news, features,
and interviews on Tuesdays since 1948. RS broadcasts to North America:
15:30 hrs on 17880 and 21610 kHz
03:00 hrs on 9695 and 11705 kHz
To Europe, Africa, and the Middle East:
15:30 hrs on 21675 kHz (East Africa)
17:00 hrs on 1179, 6065, and 9615 kHz
21:00 hrs on 1179, 9655 and 11705 kHz
And to Asia and the Pacific:
12:30 hrs on 17705 and 21610 kHz
14:00 hrs on 17705 and 21610 kHz
01:00 hrs on 15390 and 17790 kHz
