No, the only thing you have to do is just remove the particle. The
particle is just a silly bit of common sense that we all can do without.
ONce you remove it and Arthur's brain starts working again, the "death"
scene you're getting is just a way to get you back into "dark" and back
to the heart of gold. Nothing more.

Remember when the beast bellows and demands to know your name? You tell
it a name (preferably Arthur Dent). THEN when you run into the room
with the tombstone and wrap the towel around your head, carve the name
that you told the beast into the stone. THAT will confuse him. The
thing about this scene (which will relate to the vogon question) is that
if you screw it up, you'll never get a chance to repeat the scene.
Solving this scene is IMPERITIVE because you'll get the circuit board
that you HAVE to have (I cannot stress this more :-) ) to replace the
one in the nutrimatic drink machine. THe reason that you have to do
this is to get the Tea, not that ATS crap. The Tea will allow you to
SELECT which scene you want to get to (ford, zaphod, the whale,
Trillian, etc...) as opposed to random like the ATS. Neat huh?

Every scene coming from the "dark" can never be returned to once you
have solved it. You already solved the vogon one when you woke up after
Earth was demolished. DOn't worry about this one. It's useless. Like
I said, before, the only one that you can never return to, even if you
havn't solved it is the Bugblatter one. Pity about that.

Hmmmm... okay. This will only happen if you have solved the brain part.
Like I said, if you return to a "dark" scene that you have already
solved (Vogon, Trillian, Ford... you get the picture), you will be
kicked back into "dark" because it will "kill" your persona in that one.
No biggie, EXCEPT for this one. You will actually DIE when you return
to this scene.

The way to avoid this is to get the TEA and select which scenes you go
to. The way to select them is to find out which sense is missing and
explore that sense. This is the key:

Ford: sight -light stabs in the front of your eyes
Zaphod: sight -light stabs in the back of your eyes
Trillian : touch -something cold and wet (taste it to wake up)
Whale : touch -something warm and wet (taste it to wake up)
Vogon : smell -something pungent being waved _under_ (I think) your nose
Beast: smell -something pungent being waved near you nose
Heart of Gold : sound -star drive coming from far above
Star fleet : sound -star drive coming from far below

hope this helps!
