No, but it takes a few turns for the sphere to explode. And the clock 
only ticks when you're actually in the cube room.

You can treat it as a standard cryptogram. (That's how I solved it.) 
(Yes, and I solved the cryptogram in _Christminster_ the same way. :-)

Or you can figure out the key, which is a bit of a leap, but not that 
hard. Have you solved the "snavig" task? (I assume so, since you have 
almost all the points.) What was the name of the spell you got as a 
reward? It relates to the distinctive string "123456" in the frieze.
