This README file is posted on ftp.telebit.com in ~ftp/pub/netblazer/release This is the README file for Telebit Corporation's NetBlazer Software Version 1.5. Before you FTP any other files, be sure you make a copy of your current, working NetBlazer diskette before making any updates in case you need to go back to your earlier version of code! Please refer to your Release Notes and your NetBlazer manual for instructions on making a copy of your NetBlazer diskette. These are all the files needed for properly upgrading to 1.5 FRED ---> (VER 1.5) [fred.1.5 is the same; fred.Z is compressed] MODEMCAP.TXT ---> (VER 1.66) CHAT.TXT ---> (VER 1.6) DEFAULT.CNF ---> (VER 1.9) TOKEN001.MCD ---> This is support for folks using Token Ring interfaces. UPDATE.CNF ---> This is for folks who want to use the Raw Server (see the command references for more information on this.) NOTE: If you're upgrading from 1.4 to 1.5, you don't need to get this file. README --> This file /doc is a documentation directory, and it is the repository for the version 1.5 release documentation. This version will ship in new NetBlazers, and will include the new, rewritten manual. The new manual has been provided here. Files that end in ".ps" are in PostScript format, and these are the new manual document files. The 1.5 release mailing to existing customers will include the new manual. commands.ps The new Command Reference. (replaces the Chapter 6 pages in the original manual by explaining syntax and use of the new commands.) config.ps This is the Configuration Guide, our new "how to set up your NetBlazer" section. release.notes.ps These are the official Release Notes for the 1.5 release. This document outlines what has changed from version 1.4 to 1.5, and provides specific information about some of the new features. supplements.ps These pages explain things like how to get an Internet address, setting up synchronous modems for leased line use, and a foldout command summary. user.ps This is a general guide for people who will be users of NetBlazer services. It is a reference document for folks who use, rather than administer, the NetBlazer. Follow these instructions to get all the necessary files to upgrade to 1.5 ** IMPORTANT ** ** IMPORTANT ** ** IMPORTANT ** o Format a diskette, and then use the DISKCOPY command to make a working copy of your of your existing "work" diskette. Leave the new disk (copy) in the drive. ----- then, continue here ----- o get MODEMCAP.TXT, DEFAULT.CNF and CHAT.TXT (option: get UPDATE.CNF) o set FTP into BINARY mode and get FRED. As a safety measure, rename the incoming file something other than fred, so that if the transfer is interrupted, you will not damage your current FRED file. (option: get TOKEN001.MCD) o After you have successfully pulled the files back; - rename fred to fred.old (or something other than fred) - rename fred.new (or whatever you called it) to fred - reboot your NetBlazer, and it will come up running 1.4 o If starting configuration from scratch, rename your old startup.cnf and user.cnf files (use a .old extension, perhaps), and then reboot. Your NetBlazer will now have only a root account without a password. Next, configure your NetBlazer and use the save command to create your new startup.cnf and passwd files. If you have any trouble getting these files, please call 1-800-TELEBIT (1-800-835-3248), and follow the prompts to the NetBlazer Technical Support group. Any of the technicians should be able to assist you.
