[00NOTE

 June 1994]

Everything in the directory TeX3.1415
is what we consider likely to be essential or extremely useful
to people installing a basic TeX set up for the first time.

The core of the set-up is Karl Berry's cluster of programs
using the kpathsea path-searching library. We have re-arranged
the material so that all of his programs can be made in a single
make, if desired. We have updated the kpathsea bundled with
web2c-6.1, so that all programs will be made with the same
path-searching library. The versions in this distribution are:

     kpathsea-1.8
	dviljk-1.1
	dvipsk-5.55a
	web2c-6.1
	xdvik-1.8

The texinfo.tex file necessary to produce the documentation for
the kpathsearch library, dvipsk, and xdvik, is at version 2.125,
and is in the texmf installation tree in the directory
${TEXMFROOT}/tex/plain.

Because the documentation for the Kpathsearch Library is useful
to anyone doing this installation, we have generated it and
converted it to PostScript format, and placed the file in
${TEXMFROOT}/doc/ready/TeX3.1415. The files have been split
into sections of four pages each to accommodate printers at
all sites.
