Still love the : kite, I just bring extra rods with me. I have never seen a Stranger, but I have been flying a Goodwinds Flash. I keep breaking lower spreaders on it too. It uses a 2100 rod and I was thinking about going to a Beman 14 Strong. I could ream the fittings the .005 inch difference in diameter. But!!! In the meantime, I found the reason for breaking the spars. This kite has a T-fitting that has a molded part to attach to the spine and an aluminum ferrule to attach the lower spreaders together. When the kite is assembled, the lower spreaders are bowed by the stand-offs. With each of the lower spreaders bowed and the aluminum ferrule straight, there is a lot of pressure applied to the spar at the ends of the aluminum ferrule. When I was breaking a spar it always broke at the T-fitting end. I simply took two philips screwdrivers that were close to the right diameter and inserted them into each end of the ferrule to the center. I bent the ferrule by pushing with my thumbs in the center as I pulled the screwdriver handles back. I bent it to the approximate angle of the two lower spreaders where they intersect the spine. I didn't even have to take the T-fitting off of the kite. The result - no more broken spreaders. :-) Does the stranger have a straight ferrule at the T-fitting? Hope this helps! I doubt an intermediate flyer would get much out of this kite, but anyone that feels like pushing the limits, should look into this kite as it redefines what the limits are. carl (iiiiimmmm baaaacckkk) ___________________________________________________ email: crowell@kite.com FTP: ftp.teleport.com/pub/users/crowell WWW: http://www.teleport.com/~crowell Kites By Carl Crowell - O.S.F.M. I've certainly spiked and snapped at will.
