For anyone interested/kite skiers too: Money Magazine listed Madison, 
Wisconsin USA to be the best city in the US in their latest issue. A 
mention of the 1997 Kite Skiing World Championships was made in the

1997 Kite Skiing World Championships



Event Dates: January 31-February 1, 1997(actual racing dates)

Event Location: Lake Mendota, Madison Wisconsin, USA. Madison is located 
north-northwest about 2 � hour drive from Chicago's O'Hare(ORD) 
International Airport. Madison is a large modern university city with 
many interesting shopping, restaurants & pubs within a five minute walk 
>From the headquarter hotel, and the lake.
Madison is 1 � hour drive from Milwaukee(MKE) Mitchell International 
Airport.

Weather Conditions During Event: Ice depth:40-70cm(16-27in.). Snow 
Covered:15-30cm(6-12in.). Winds:During the winter, winds usually are 
very good on this lake. The chance for no snow cover is minimum, yet you 
may want to bring additional shorter skis in case of lake being only 
ice.
Night Skiing: Skiing at night is easily done and very beautiful. Finding 
the Edgewater Hotel while skiing on the lake is easy, since the lights 
>From the Madison Capitol are bright. It is almost impossible not to see 
the hotel, even while 5 miles across the lake.

Special Event Rate: $69.00/night-two double beds/room.
Transportation: FREE from Madison Airport(MSN)
Rental Car?: Not needed in Madison. All restaurants/pubs/shopping  
located 5 minute walk from hotel.
Madison accessed via Chicago O'Hare(ORD) Airport.  

Competitor  Fee: $75.00 includes event t-shirt, reception(Friday night), 
awards banquet(Saturday night).

Racing Class: Tethered Only(kites, wings, foils, sails).
Racing Categories: Course race, speed trial, distance jumping.
Event Purse: Money and product will be awarded for first place 
finishers,  as well as award trophies.  Second and third place finishers 
will receive award trophy and product. Depending on quantity of product 
donated, other finishers may be awarded product.
Sponsor's Fee: $800.00, includes: Product setup table at reception(Fri 
night), display company banners, selling product, soliciting customers, 
presentations to public & media. Company logo and name displayed on all 
event promotional materials, in magazine ads & editorial.  Placement of 
banners at start line, registration area, etc. Two tickets for reception 
& awards banquet. Two event t-shirts. Registration for two competitors.

Event budget disclosure: Each  sponsor will receive a detailed expense 
disclosure sheet, including all expenditures and revenue sources.

Competitor  medical & liability waiver: Each registered competitor must 
sign a medical & liability waiver. This waiver holds event organizers, 
all sponsors harmless from liability claims. Helmuts must be worn at all 
times.

Event Promotion: To promote the event worldwide, links to major skiing 
and related World Wide Web sites will be made.  Skiing, kiting,( 
American Kite Magazine has pledged advertising and editorial support) 
and related magazines will be sent press releases. International 
television shows and agencies will be contacted. CNN, Discovery 
Channel(Next Step) NBC, CBS, PBS(regionally),  ESPN-2 have already 
pledged their williness to run segments on the event.
