Hi all,

Sorry to disturb your chat, but I thought it was the best way to find
out some information: ask directly the real fans.

So, I started flying about one year ago and usually I flight alone.
My probleme is, now I'm able (more or less) to "pilot" where I want my kite,
but I don't know how to do figures. I mean axeles ... basic figures ... ?

Does anybody can advise me a book, a magazin, a site, or ??? where I can
find these explanations ? It could be in english, in french, or even in other
language if it's graphically.

Thanks in advance and have good fun

/Cyrille

Sheesh! We must be getting too high-brow when all the beginners feel
that they need to appologise. No problem.

Go to http://www.kfs.org/kites then look for STACK in the Organisation
section. These guys set the figures and they're all there for you to look
at.

Some of them are quite tricky. You might want to practice cutting "squares"
first - equal sides at equal speeds, with sharp corners - more difficult than
it sounds.

Also, wander down to your kite store and ask about Dodd Gross's "Flight
School" videos and Ron Reich's "Kite Precision" book. If you're kite
store has not heard of these, you're in a toy shop...

Well...there are some fine books (which I haven't read yet...)
AND of course there's Dodd's videos that handle this subject.
For some descriptions, a place to look is

I am just getting started in this area myself so I can't give you to
much info, but DO get Dodd Gross'e tapes. I have Kite School III and
now I am going to get Kite School II, they are very good tapes.

Here are some WWW sites to get good information from.

http://www.win.tue.nl/win/cs/fm/pp/kites/basics/flying.html
This site has all the moves, basic and trick.

http://www.kfs.org/kites/stack/skcr3/compbook/comp-idx.htm
This site has all the figures in GIF file format, you can look at them
or save the as a file.

AKA also puts out a manual for competition stunts, that has all the
moves you need to know to compete. They have the newest ones out now
and there are some new shapes to play with.

Wanna actually see the figures and compulsorys ?

Get the Software companion disc to the
book Stunt kites II .

It plays all the figures on your PC screen from the viewpoint of the
pilot.
It installs easy - costs around $20 or less and is upgraded
as they become available via the internet.

Later you can "program" your own ballet using this same software.
Additionally theres a plotting program to print out
plans for the kites in the SK I and SKII books.

I was waiting for this book to come out before I responded. David Gomberg,
author of "Stunt Kites!", has just published an advanced flying book called
"Sport Kite Magic!" and it is EXACTLY what the original poster requires. I am
also past the stage of controlling my kite and was looking for a book to
explain what it took to compete. David does an excellent job of explaining
how to fly the routines, and from a judge's perspective to boot.

If it's not already available at your nearest dealer, get him/her to give
David a call and get it.

Take care,
Mark
