D. Jordan to Bob Childs :-) Well, the Praire Winds Kite Fest is over! Boy, did I have fun, and boy, did I meet a lot of nice (and funny) people. Here are some impressions of 3 guys I met and talked with: Steve Shapson of Force 10: Dean Jordan refered to this guy as "The little guy with the big kites." Talk about a funny guy (Steve). He seemed be running on high the whole time-always making jokes about his kite flying experiences. He spent most of the time flying his quads while in a buggy or on grass skiis. The rest of the time he was running around in a somewhat mild state of panic "Where's my pink and yellow quad, have you seen it, where is it, it was here, I think..." After about an hour of running around the entire festival grounds, someone suggested he look in his truck. It was there, about 5 feet from where he started his search. He sold all of his MAMBO shirts, the shirts with the dog sniffing the womans bottom, or licking itself and all those other disgusting things that dogs do...I like this guy! Dean Jordan and Bob Childs: These guys are great, and funny also- I spent most my time listening to these guys talk about kite making, flying and some stories while at the local kite shop. After about 3 hrs of stories and jokes, Dean Jordan, Bob Childs and everyone else in the store decided to do some indoor flying at the civic center. Dean flew his "X-1" (I think this is a prototype), while Bob Childs flew the Jabborwockey (sp!) and a Griffen. After a time of getting used to the indoor flying, Bob and Dean flew 360's together (Indoor team flying) It was actually neat to watch- even though they kept hitting the basketball hoops during this time. Another game arose- trying to land the kite in the basketball hoop- much harder than it sounds! Since the civic center was so small, both Bob and Dean used about 20 feet of 50lb line. Today, they are planning to do some power flying with buggies- it's nice outside, and I am stuck here at home :-( I will tell you one thing- I don't think I have ever met a nicer (and funnier) bunch of people than I did at this kite fest. Makes me proud to be a member of the Kiting community. BTW, Dean told everyone at the kite shop that he will be on Science and Technology (CNN). He said that they had asked him do some indoor flying (His first experience), some buggy runs along the beach. and etc.. He is not sure when it will be on- I suggest everyone interested just set their VCR to record the Science and Technology on the weekends when they replay all the episodes shown during the week. Some other people were there, but I didn't get to meet: Bo's Kites Dyna Kites and, dammit, I can't remeber any others right now...... Take care, Paul experience
