N-1-2-100.08 IFIP News by Howard L. Funk The Information Processing Society of Japan hosted the IFIP General Assembly meeting in Tokyo last September. The IPJS which started in April 1960 with 800 members has grown to greater than 32,000 members. A. Melbye (Denmark) and A. Balasubrahmanian (India( were reelected to serve as Treasurer and Vice-President respectively. Jacques Fourot (France) resigned after 12 years of service as Secretary. Graham Morris (UK) was elected as Secretary. Dr. Prem Gupta, recently past president of the International Council for Computer Communications (ICCC) was selected as Program Chair for the IFIP World Computer Congress to be held in Canberra, Australia in 1996. Ron Uhlig, formerly chairman of TC 6 (Data Communications) who now serves both as ICCC president and General Chairman of the IFIP WCC '94 to be held in Hamburg, reported on the status of the WCC Hamburg. Mark your calendars now for this exciting Congress on computers and communications to be held the last week of August in Hamburg in 1994. The General Assembly unanimously approved the creation of the Isaac L. Auerbach Award for service in support of the IFIP mission. All IFIP member societies have been invited to make nominations. The first award will be presented at the opening session of the WCC in Hamburg. The late Isaac L. Auerbach was a founder of IFIP. The Kristian Beckman Award, given by TC 11 to recognize an individual who has significantly contributed to the development of information security, especially for achievements with an international perspective, was presented for the first time to Professor Harold Joseph Highland (USA). IFIP's Working Group on Application Layer Communication Services is organizing an International Working Conference on Upper Layer Protocols, Architectures, and Applications (ULPAA) to be held in Barcelona, Spain from 1-3 June 1994.
